VARICOSE VEINS
Varicose veins, a swollen one caused that interferes with the flow of blood toward the heart. Veins in legs often become varicose, especially when a person stands a great deal. Heart and liver diseases, gout, pregnancy, abdominal tumors are among the various other causes of varicose veins. In more grave cases of varicose veins, bluish knotty lumps form along the vein. The patient feels much pain in the leg. The main dangers are that blood will clot in vein or that the vein will burst, and cause hemorrhage. The diseased veins can also keep the tissues from getting enough nourishment. Water may collect under the skin and may cause swelling and ulcers. The blood circulates in body through a system of tubes called blood vessels. The three kinds of vessels are arteries, capillaries, and veins. Most veins return blood to the heart after it has given out nourishment to the tissues and taken up waste products and poisons. Blood in veins is called venous blood. The blood returning from body cells has lost much of its oxygen, and is dull, brownish-red. It circulates through right side of the heart and then goes to the lungs. Here it gives off its waste carbon dioxide and takes on a new supply of oxygen. Bright red blood from lungs returns to heart through the pulmonary veins. Then it begins its rotation through the body.
As we age, many of us find the purple lines or swollen bluish cords spreading across our thighs and calves. Spider veins are small, twisted blood vessels that are visible through the skin. They may be red, purple, or blue and most often appear on the legs or face. Varicose veins are larger blood vessels that have become swollen and twisted. They appear dark blue and stick out from the skin like raised tunnels.
Healthy veins carry blood to the heart through a series of one-way valves. These valves allow blood to flow in the right direction from superficial veins to deeper veins and to the heart. The vessels are surrounded by muscles, which contract and help pump blood to the heart. Normally the veins have a one-way valve to prevent backflow. However, defective valves allow blood to flow backward and pool inside the vein. As blood pools within the vein, pressure builds and the vessel wall weakens. As a result, the vein tends to bulge and twist. Depending on the size of the blood vessel and extent of swelling, the result is a spider vein or varicose vein. Anyone can be affected, but women are twice as susceptible as men, and more common to those whose job profile is to keep them on their feet, including nurses and teachers. Other factors that may contribute to include aging, obesity, pregnancy, prior trauma, or surgery to the leg and a genetic predisposition.
Symptoms: Varicose veins in particular may cause aching or cramping in the legs. The affected area may throb, burn, tingle, or feel heavy. Severely inflamed veins can be tender to the touch and may cut circulation, leading to itchy, swollen ankles. They can also produce chronic skin and tissue changes such as discoloration and ulceration of the skin or ulcers–large sores in the skin, especially near the ankles, can also form painful blood clots. If the veins are causing pain, soreness, and muscle fatigue or cramping, there are steps one can take at home to cut the symptoms.
Treatment: •Support stockings, simplest treatment for varicose veins, sometimes called compression stockings; they improve circulation and relieve pain and discomfort in the legs.
•Lifestyle Changes, Losing weight and walking regularly can ease the symptoms of varicose veins. If swelling is a problem, try a low-salt diet to cut water retention. Whenever there is a possibility, prop up legs with a pillow or recliner so they rest at above the level of heart.
Preventing: Getting plenty of exercise is the best way to ward off varicose veins. Exercise helps keep weight under control and at the same time leg muscles toned, so in that case blood will flow freely. If one’s job keeps on feet, it is always better to stretch leg muscles often to increase circulation. And if pregnant, try to sleep on your left side and not your back.
Acupuncture Onnuri SuJok; itself is a powerful tool to aid in strengthening the circulation system of blood flow in the veins. And dominant controlling energy for the cause in question is Heart ‘Heat’, by sedating humidity and tonifying wind energy in the same meridian, may give good results. Or one can tied the metacarpophalangeal joint of middle finger with rubber. The method is helpful, the remission of the disease can be achieved and medicaments therapy simultaneously can be reduced or eliminated altogether. The course of treatment is definitely uneventful. One should opt for it as there is no side effect at all, as treatment concept is only on the hand.
